Patience is the key

Being in LA is a different world. The vegetable aisle is huge and says things like organic. Gas is expensive and the comedy scene is expansive. When I finally felt ready to get out there I didn’t know where there was. So I reached out to a few people I already know and got a few gigs. I then started targeting mics that I felt would be good to check out. The three big Hollywood comedy clubs (Improv, Laugh Factory, and Comedy Store) all do mics where the bookers watch. They all have different dates/times/rules so you gotta learn those even though the information is not available online. I so far have tried Comedy Store and Improv, both are bucket mics. This means you get there by a certain time and put your name in a bucket and if you get pulled you get stage time. I struck out both times, which was disappointing. I’m going back today to try again. My friend said it took her 6 mics before her name got pulled, but once it did, she was ready to go and got picked to come back for a showcase. So patience is the key. Good things will come in time.
